Head Coach – Mike Roi

I grew up in Sydney, Australia where I was introduced to tennis at the age of 6. I instantly fell in love with the game. I found myself improving quite rapidly, and went from Beginner to Junior Club Champion within a relatively short space of time. Within a few years I had progressed up the junior ladder to become state and nationally ranked.

After High School, I was offered a full scholarship at Illinois State University in America. Following my education I started travelling around the world competing in lower tier professional tournaments such as; Paris, Switzerland, Austria, Africa and Israel to name just a few, picking up a ranking along the way.

I then moved to Germany to play club tennis for a team in Pfullendorf, and managed to go undefeated the entire season! Whilst in Germany, I was also coaching tennis full time and discovered I had a real knack for helping players improve and realised that I absolutely love teaching tennis. I then did a season in Greece for a Mark Warner Club as Head Coach.

I came to England where I was offered the Head Coach position at Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club, where I spent 5 and a half years. During this time I qualified with the L.T.A as a level 3 coach, as well as attaining the Professional grade with the P.T.R (highest possible at that time).

In 2002 I set up Breakpoint Tennis, and started managing and coaching at a number of clubs in the Kent area. Since then my passion for tennis has been passed onto thousands of children and adults in clubs and schools. I even had the fortune to coach a women’s player in 2014 named Saschia Vickery, who was 184 in the world. I helped her prepare for the Wimbledon championships.

I still love playing competitively, representing Kent as the over 35’s Captain for 9 years and still competing regularly in tournaments and league matches. My love for the game has only grown stronger over the years, and I am one of the few that can honestly say that I really do love my job!

MIKE ROIDirector Of Breakpoint Tennis

My youngest daughter has done many of Mike’s holiday tennis camps and always has a great time. Mike is able to find the right balance between silly fun and serious tennis whether it’s one-on-one or in a large group. He has taught me too and improved my game considerably!

As a family, we have all had lessons from Breakpoint Tennis over the last 8 years. Mike is a truly amazing coach, my game has improved and my confidence has grown, as a result, I’m now taking part in Club League matches, and my daughter Milly represents her secondary school for u13 A team matches. she has also been to a number of the holiday camps which are always challenging and rewarding but fun as well.

I spend 50% of my (shared with my hubby) tennis lessons laughing at the “feedback” and “words of wisdom” of the coach Mike Roi! But I think that my tennis is improving as well.

I play for the fitness, the fun part is a bonus!
